Currently, there is an information void with respect to restoration and management activities and research in Texas and surrounding bioregions. Although some research is being done and published in national and international journals, information and data are spread across a wide variety of discipline-oriented journals, many of which are difficult to find outside of a major university library. A great deal more restoration-oriented research and management is being done outside of academia -- in state, federal, and local governmental and non-governmental agencies -- and is published as "gray literature," remaining largely unknown outside a small circle of researchers and managers. Furthermore, with the rapid expansion of outdoor education and field ecology programs in public schools, a forum is needed for teachers to share and discuss ways to present restoration to children. Discussions with restorationists around the state have indicated that a magazine bringing restoration ideas and research specific to the region together into a single publication is not only desirable, but also necessary.
Texas Restoration Notes is a biannual publication on regional ecological restoration, designed to address this void in information exchange. The magazine's general style will be non-technical, to appeal to restorationists outside of academia, but will also provide technical information where warranted.

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP:
NETWORKING is a wonderful benefit of Texas SER membership -- bringing together diverse practitioners and enthusiasts to share ideas, experiences and problems. This exchange of knowledge increases the effectiveness of our members state-wide.
THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE is our primary opportunity for bringing members together in a beautiful location to network, share and learn. Typically held during the summer, speakers present papers on restoration theory, projects, education and even art from around Texas. Field trips and social events are key to the conference, allowing members to see active projects in the vicinity of the conference, as well as to meet informally with their peers to discuss restoration.
PRACTIONER FIELD DAYS occur throughout the year -- practitioners around Texas provide insider tours of restoration projects to members. These are great opportunities to see projects up close, ask questions and gain insights into restoration techniques in various parts of the state, each with its own unique environmental parameters and project goals.
COST: Texas SER membership fee is only $15 which supports the Chapter's administration. The Board of Texas SER consists of volunteers who share a passion for furthering ecological restoration in Texas. Members receive a reduced registration fee to the annual conference and practitioner field days which alone make this a good deal.
SPECIAL OFFER: Want to be a member of SER International as well for the price of a Texas SER Membership? For a limited time, when you join Texas SER you will receive a free Associate Membership to SER International (New this year: you are no longer required to be a member of SER International to join Texas SER). An Associate Member of SER International receives the quarterly SERNews electronically and RESTORE, the weekly e-bulletin on global restoration news.
